Ahmedabad: A 31-year-old gynaecologist from Ahmedabad has filed complaint of cheating alleging that her identity was fraudulently used in a medical insurance scam involving forged documents and unauthorised enrollment with a Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) company.

Dr. Hiralben Koli, a practising gynaecologist at Krishna Hospital in Shahpur, lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Satellite Police Station on May 20. She has accused a pathologist associated with Velys Diagnostics and Pathology Centre of obtaining her personal and professional credentials under false pretences nearly two years ago.

According to the FIR, the pathologist, along with an associate, allegedly used Dr. Koli’s Doctorate Certificate, Aadhaar Card, and Gujarat Medical Council Registration to fraudulently add her name to LIC’s panel of approved medical professionals. The duo is also accused of forging her signature on several medical claim forms submitted to LIC.

As per the recent media reports by Gujrat Samachar, Dr Koli, who resides in Shahibaug, stated that she had been contacted by Rashmiben through a mutual acquaintance around two years ago. At the time, Rashmiben had reportedly proposed that Dr Koli assist with female patient evaluations. In return, she was promised a share of the claim money. At that time, Rashmiben had asked to share documents via WhatsApp, claiming it was necessary for the collaboration.

The case came to light on May 13, 2025, when Dr. Koli was approached by an LIC official named Mukesh Goyal, who requested her to sign documents related to Velys Diagnostics. Surprised by the request, Dr. Koli informed Goyal that she had no affiliation with LIC. To her shock, she was told that she was already listed as a panel doctor.

According to Gujrat Samachar, alarmed, Dr Koli requested immediate removal of her name and filed a formal complaint. She later received documents via email that showed forged signatures in her name on patient claim forms.

Police at Satellite Police Station have initiated an investigation into the allegations, including a probe into the role of the director of Velys Diagnostics and Pathology Centre, who is suspected of being involved in the scheme. As of now, no arrests have been made.
