Insurance fraud: Prime accused held for duping Pune doctor of Rs 2 crore
Pune: The Pune police have arrested a fifth person, identified as the mastermind in a fraud case where a Pune-based doctor has been cheated of Rs 2 crore in an insurance policy scam.
The Pune city cyber police had already arrested four other people. The other accused have been identified as 27-year-old Shahawan Putra Salim Ahmed, Sandeep Kumar Pautra Dharmapal from Ghaziabad, Sahib Khan Putra Nasir Ali and Tuajib Khan Putra Akil Ahmed from Kasganj.

The doctor and the accused came to contact after the former was promised an insurance policy in 2013. The accused urged the doctor to invest Rs 2.05 crore for better returns.
One of the accused used to work at a private insurance company in Noida, during which he collected the data of the customers and contacted them later. The doctor was also contacted in a similar manner and was asked to revive his lapsed insurance policy. The doctor eventually agreed to their demands and invested some money. But he failed to get any returns.
The Pune police currently arrested 37-year-old Faridabad resident Bablu Bindeshwar Paswan. He was apprehended from Agra jail in Uttar Pradesh, where he was serving his time.
Following court orders, Paswan was taken into custody and brought to Pune for further investigation reports the Punekar news. The accused used around 41 bank accounts from 18 different banks for their fraudulent operations.
A case was registered at the Pune cyber police station under sections 419, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, reveals a previously published media report in the Hindustan Times. The investigation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivas Ghadge, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vijaykumar Palasule and Senior Police Inspector Meenal Supe-Patil. The investigating team members included Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant and constables Praveen Singh Rajput, Vaibhav Mane, Rajudas Chavan, and Kiran Jamdade.
