Bhopal: In a tragic incident, an assistant professor from the Emergency and Trauma Department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, allegedly attempted suicide by injecting herself with an anaesthetic drug at home. She is currently on ventilator support in critical condition.

The doctor's husband stated that everything was normal at home; therefore, he is unclear what might have led her to take the extreme step. The institute has also said the same.

The incident took place on Thursday night when the doctor attempted to end her life. When her husband, an orthopaedic surgeon, noticed her, he found her unconscious in the room. He then immediately rushed her to the AIIMS emergency unit around 10:30 PM.

The drug that she injected reportedly caused her pulse and heartbeat to drop sharply. To save her, the doctors administered CPR and revived her. However, her condition remains critical, and she is on ventilator support in the ICU.

The doctors treating her told Bhaskar, "She is recovering, but the extent of damage to the nerves will only be clear after 72 hours. Currently, she is on ventilator support in the main ICU."

AIIMS PRO Dr Ketan Mehra told Free Press Journal, "She had completed her duties on Thursday and returned home. Around 10.30 pm, her husband found her unconscious. He informed AIIMS authorities that everything had been normal at home earlier, but later discovered her unresponsive after allegedly injecting herself. No note or message was found, and the reason behind her attempt remains unclear."

ACP Bag Sewania Rajnish Kashyap Kaul said that police will only look into the matter once an official intimation is received.
