Rajkot: In a tragic incident, a first-year postgraduate medico from the ophthalmology department at Bhavnagar Government Medical College allegedly attempted suicide by consuming an overdose of medicines in a hotel room in Palitana.
He was found unconscious with froth coming from his mouth and was immediately rushed for emergency treatment. His condition remains critical, and the reason behind the attempt is still unclear.

As per a TOI media report, the incident occurred on Tuesday when the doctor, after completing his duty, checked into the hotel but failed to check out on time. The hotel staff entered his room and found him unconscious.
They immediately called the emergency ambulance service, and he was shifted to Bhavnagar Medical College and Hospital.
Speaking to the media, the medical college dean, Dr. Chinmay Shah, confirmed that the doctor’s condition remains critical and said his parents have been informed about the incident.
Police have launched a preliminary investigation into the suspected overdose, and the case has been registered as a medico-legal case (MLC).
Medical dialogues had reported that the 3rd year paediatrics medico attempted suicide due to an alleged toxic work culture. The doctor reportedly tried to end her life by consuming Lorazepam tablets. After she was found, the doctor was immediately rushed to the casualty department and was eventually stabilised in the MICU. It was alleged that the doctor was facing harassment and discrimination from the head of the department, who is also her PG guide and local guardian.
