Dehradun: In an unfortunate incident, a senior resident doctor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh, allegedly committed suicide by injecting a harmful substance intravenously (IV).

The 30-year-old was found lying dead on his bed with an intravenous (IV) line inserted in his left arm. While preliminary investigation suggests death by suicide, the exact reason will be ascertained once the autopsy results are available.

According to news reports, during the search, the police found a suicide note in which the doctor stated that he was not satisfied with his life. This is believed to be the reason for taking the extreme step.

As per a TOI media report, the incident came to light on Monday when the doctor failed to report for duty, and he was unreachable over phone. Since he was not responding, the security personnel alerted the police, who reached the third floor of AIIMS hostel and found his room locked from inside. After breaking the door, they found the doctor dead.

According to the police, one of his colleagues claimed that the doctor had complained of abdominal pain on Saturday. "However, further details will be known after the postmortem," said sub-inspector Nikhilesh Bisht, in charge of AIIMS police chowki.

The doctor had been serving at AIIMS Rishikesh for the past three years. After his shocking demise, the police informed his family in the evening. A case has been registered in this regard, and an investigation is underway.
