Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old AYUSH doctor's decomposed body was recovered on Sunday by the Odisha police from his rented house in the Chauliaganj area of Odisha's Cuttack.

The doctor who worked in the Salepur Community Health Centre was found dead in a locked house. He was living on rent for 3 years in the Chauwalganj area of Cuttack.

Police broke open the house and recovered the body after it was informed about a foul smell emanating from the house. After recovering the body, the police sent it to SCB Medical Center for autopsy.

Though the reason for the doctor's death is not yet known it is suspected that he might have died following a cardiac arrest. The cause of the death would be known only after the post-mortem.

According to the owner of the house, the door was locked from inside for the past four days which made the owner and the neighbours suspicious. The owner of the house is a retired doctor who after several suspicious activities decided to check up on the doctor. Despite repeated calls to the doctor, the owner received no response which prompted him to call the police.

Although the owner suspects that the doctor had died due to asthma and other diseases, the police suspect that the doctor may have died due to a heart attack as the dead body was recovered while sleeping.

Talking to The Telegraph, the owner said, “The doctor used to stay in my house on a rent basis. For the last three years, he had been residing here. I have not seen a single family member coming to his house. My son spoke to him on Wednesday evening after he returned from the hospital. But after that no one noticed him and the house remained locked inside.”

Later on Sunday morning in the presence of the executive magistrate, the police barged into the house and found the body lying on the bed.

“The deceased had reportedly fractured his hand and was on leave for the last 15 days. Besides, he was also suffering from asthma. Since the house was shut for four days, we suspect he wasn’t keeping well and hence, died,” said Zone 5 ACP Krishna Chandra Sethi.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.
