Barmer doctor alleges nurse extorted Rs 2 crore, used CCTV to monitor him

Barmer: A doctor at a private hospital in Rajasthan’s Barmer district has alleged that a nurse blackmailed him and extorted nearly Rs 2 crore over several years by threatening to circulate his private photographs and videos. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the accused nurse and launched an investigation into the matter. 

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nitesh Arya, the doctor alleged that the nurse, who has been working at the private hospital since 2016, had been blackmailing him for a long period. He claimed that she threatened to circulate his personal photographs and videos if he failed to comply with his demands.

The doctor alleged that she copied his private photographs from his mobile phone without his knowledge and later used them to blackmail him. Fearing damage to his reputation and the hospital’s image, he claimed he paid her nearly Rs 2 crore, including Rs 35 lakh transferred through his personal and hospital bank accounts, reports TOI.

In his complaint, the doctor further alleged that the nurse forced him to sign blank cheques and stamp papers, which she kept in a bank locker. He also claimed that she provided him with a mobile phone and SIM card registered in her name and pressured him to keep it switched on so that she could track his location. The complaint also alleged that she obtained access to the hospital’s CCTV surveillance system.

The doctor further alleged that the nurse repeatedly contacted him and once made around 1,000 calls during his visit to Ahmedabad. He also claimed that she stayed outside his residence overnight on one occasion.

The complaint stated that the nurse allegedly visited the doctor’s residence on Tuesday and took Rs 12,000 from his wallet. Following the complaint, police registered a case and formed a special team to investigate the allegations.

During the preliminary investigation, officials claimed that the allegations against the nurse were supported by initial findings, following which she was arrested.

The police are also investigating the nature of the relationship between the doctor and the nurse. Officers have recovered Rs 17,000 from the accused nurse. She is accused of extorting money by threatening to circulate the doctor's private photos and videos, and to file a legal case against him, reports ETV Bharat.

After her arrest, the nurse was taken for a medical examination. She denied all allegations and described the doctor’s claims as false and baseless. She alleged that the doctor was making accusations against her to protect himself and maintained that the truth would emerge after a thorough investigation.

The police are continuing their probe to verify the allegations, examine available evidence and establish the facts of the case.
