Begusarai: In a disturbing incident, a woman doctor was allegedly attacked with acid while returning home from work in Bihar’s Begusarai on Monday night. Police arrested the accused within hours of the incident.

The doctor sustained minor injuries and was discharged after receiving initial treatment at Sadar Hospital.

The incident took place around 10 pm on DAV School Road, near Subhash Chowk, under the city police station’s jurisdiction. According to the FIR, the doctor was walking home from the hospital when the accused approached her from behind and threw acid at her.

According to the initial report, the incident occurred as the doctor was entering the Harakh locality. A bottle was allegedly thrown at her from behind but fell to the ground. Acid splashed from the bottle onto her body, causing minor injuries, Patna Press reported.

Police findings suggest that the accused had allegedly been following the doctor for around three months and secretly taking her photographs. Investigators are examining these allegations as part of their efforts to establish the circumstances leading to the attack.

Preliminary police findings suggest that the 30-year-old accused, a resident of Samastipur district who runs an e-rickshaw charging point in Begusarai, had been following the doctor for about three months and secretly photographing her. Police said these allegations are being examined.

Investigators are also probing a possible link between the attack and an earlier personal dispute involving the doctor’s husband and a woman associated with the accused.

A team from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) visited the spot to collect evidence and help identify the substance used. Senior district police officers also inspected the scene and reviewed the progress of the investigation. Female police personnel have reportedly been deployed to ensure the doctor’s safety, Jagran reported.

An FIR has been registered at the city police station. Police are questioning the accused and examining the evidence to establish the sequence of events, verify the alleged stalking and photography, and determine whether anyone else was involved.
