Chennai: Accusing a Chennai-based dermatologist, a Tamil actress has taken legal action and sought Rs 1 crore compensation for botched skin treatment alleging that the doctor put her life at risk with a 'wrongful procedure'.

In a recent Insta post, the actress shared that she is about to sue the female dermatologist demanding Rs. 1 crore as compensation for the damages. However, the dermatologist has also narrated her side of the story through a recent release and has denied the allegations. The doctor further mentioned taking legal action against the actress for tarnishing her reputation.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that the actress called out the doctor via her social media platform after an allegedly botched procedure that resulted in swelling on her facing. The actress alleged that she had visited the dermatologist for a facial treatment but the doctor had allegedly forced her to do a procedure.

She had posted her selfie and black and blue swelling marks were evident under her right eye there. The actress distressed about her face claimed to have approached the doctor but she avoided her allegedly and did not provide any constructive advice.

Now, the actress has recently released a statement on her Instagram page, where she alleged that the doctor knowingly provided 'wrong treatments' to her in order to extort money.
Terming herself as a 'victim of a negligent act', she claimed that the procedure could have put her life at risk. In her Insta statement she mentioned, "I consider Medical Practitioner yields humanitarian service to the public rather than extorting money from innocent people through false advertisement and promotion. Further, Doctors extorting money by claiming more than that prescribed by the medical rules from innocent people would also be unlawful. Finally, a doctor must respond to her patient's request for assistance in an emergency, and the patient must not be neglected."
Narrating her version of the story, she stated, " I approached the doctor based on her advertisement on various social platforms to perform certain cosmetology procedures. I have suggested wrong treatments by the doctor and her staff from the beginning of the consultation only to extort money. Also, I have been denied emergency treatment while my life was at threat due to their procedure. The shreds of evidence available to me (including a doctor examination) clearly shows that I am a victim of a wrongful procedure conducted by the doctor. Hence an apology is 'Untoward'."
Stating that being an actress she considers herself to be responsible for her actions to society, she added that she doesn't want any other person to fall victim to the same misery which she had to face. "Hence, to ensure that further no innocent people are affected by the doctor's service, I have initiated a complaint before the National Medical Commission and Tamil Nadu Medical Council against the dermatologist and others for conducting an investigation in due course of law, and I hope the decision of the authority would be revealed after investigation," she wrote.
She also informed that she has already initiated a legal proceeding and claimed Rs 1 crore as damage from the doctor for deficiency in service. She further clarified that any damages awarded in favour of the actress will be donated to "victims of medical negligence".

The doctor on the other hand has also explained on social media that the actress previously underwent such procedures and there was no side effect; however, after she underwent the similar treatment on 16.04.2021 at their clinic, she developed some bruises which were minor side effects and this can happen in selective and rare cases if the precautions and medical advice of the doctor are not strictly followed.
Assuring the efficiency and standard of the skincare treatment provided by her clinic, the dermatologist stated, " The actress who is well aware of the risks of the procedure has purposely made a statement and published the photograph in order to the defame my clinic which is well established and reputed and had owned great accolades and appreciation from the public with regard to skin treatment and other dermatology care." She further added, " The statement made by the actresses is derogatory and had grossly affected the name and reputation of mine and my clinic. Therefore, I am constrained to initiate legal proceedings against the actress and shall claim apology and suitable compensation for the said defamation, loss, and mental agony suffered by me, for which the actress alone shall be liable."
