Ahmedabad: A Quack was arrested on Tuesday by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police for running an illegal allopathic clinic in Saraswatinagar, under Changodar police station limits.

The accused, originally from Purbanagar in Nadia district, West Bengal, was currently residing in Saraswatinagar, Changodar. Despite having no formal medical degree and having studied only up to Standard 12, the doctor had been unlawfully running a home-based allopathic clinic and treating patients in the locality.

The operation was conducted in coordination with Dr Kantibhai Kapadia, medical officer in charge at the Sanathal Primary Health Centre. During the raid, authorities seized a significant quantity of allopathic medicines and medical equipment belonging to various pharmaceutical companies. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at ₹40,696.

An FIR has been registered at the Changodar police station under the Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act, 1963, which prohibits unregistered individuals from practising medicine.

Speaking to Gujarat Saamchar, police said further investigations are underway to determine whether the accused had caused any harm to patients during his unauthorised practice and to identify any possible suppliers of the medical stock recovered from the premises.

The arrest came as part of a district-wide crackdown on unqualified and bogus medical practitioners.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ahmedabad Rural Police had arrested a man posing as an allopathic doctor in the Dholeshwarnagar area near Changodar Post Office. The accused was found operating a full-fledged medical practice without holding any recognised medical degree. According to the news reports, the accused, identified as a native of Mandalhar village in West Bengal’s Nadia district, had been illegally practising modern medicine from Shakti Avenue, Moraiya village, located off Changodar-Tajpur Road.
