Illegal clinics run by Quacks busted in Telangana Medical Council Inspections

Hyderabad: In a recent crackdown on quackery in the state, the Telangana Medical Council (TSMC) recently conducted surprise inspections at several unauthorised clinics running without valid medical licenses in Addagutta, Secunderabad, and Jawahar Nagar areas of Hyderabad.

The inspections revealed that quacks without valid medical qualifications had been running first aid centres and clinics, providing allopathic treatment to several patients and dispensing allopathic medicines illegally, putting the patients' health at serious risk.

Not only that, but these unqualified practitioners kept allopathic medicines in open plastic containers. Whenever a patient visited their clinic, they would distribute the medicines directly by hand, without any proper packaging or hygiene. Some of these medicines were also being sold in nearby grocery stores.

As per The Hindu news report, one of the major violations was found at a First Aid Centre in Addagutta, which had been operated illegally by a man named Sudhakar for more than 20 years. TGMC officials said medicines were stored carelessly in open plastic boxes and handed out by hand.

In Secunderabad, Swetha Clinic, run by Chiliveru Balaraj, and Chakravarthi Clinic, operated by Salimuddin, were found to be functioning for several years without any valid medical qualifications. The officials came across unhygienic conditions and improper storage of medicines at these centres.

Another serious violation came to light at Sai Venkata Medical Store and Clinic in Jawahar Nagar near RTC X Road. The centre, run by Devasani Ramulu, had been operating as both a clinic and pharmacy for over 25 years, despite Ramulu having no recognised medical degree.

Speaking on the issue, TGMC Vice-Chairman Dr. G. Srinivas said, "Legal action is being initiated against those involved under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, Section 22 of the Telangana State Medical Practitioners Registration (TSMPR) Act, and Sections 318 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)."
