CMC Ludhiana Principal Dr Jeyaraj Pandian wins global award from World Hypertension League
Ludhiana: Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal of Christian Medical College (CMC), Ludhiana, Professor & Head of Dept of Neurology, has been conferred the prestigious “Daniel Lackland Excellence Award in Collaboration and Advocacy for Population Hypertension Risk Reduction.” He is currently serving as the President of the World Stroke Organization.
Presented by the World Hypertension League, the award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership in assessing population risks for cardiovascular, stroke, and renal diseases.
The recognition reflects Dr. Pandian’s years of dedicated work to advance hypertension control and stroke prevention, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Since 2008, he has played a pivotal role in strengthening global advocacy by sustaining engagement with the World Stroke Organization, while also contributing significantly to WHO-led strategies and collaborative initiatives, such as the Global Stroke Action Coalition. His leadership has helped bridge international policy frameworks with practical, community-level action.
Dr Jeyaraj Pandian has been serving as the Principal of Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, since April 2018. A distinguished neurologist and academician with extensive experience in clinical neurology, stroke care, research, and medical education.
He completed his MBBS from Tirunelveli Medical College under Madurai Kamaraj University and pursued an MD in Internal Medicine from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. He later obtained his DM in Neurology from Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Kerala.
Over the years, Dr Pandian has earned several prestigious fellowships, including FRACP (Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians), FRCP (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians), FESO (Fellow of the European Stroke Organization), FWSO (Fellow of the World Stroke Organisation), and FNAMS (Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences) in 2019.
Before becoming Principal, he served as Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Department of Neurology at CMC Ludhiana from 2011 to March 2018. He also held the post of Deputy Director of Research and Development at the institution from September 2014 to 2017. Since December 2007, he has been associated with the Department of Neurology at CMC Ludhiana as Professor and Consultant Neurologist, after briefly serving as Associate Professor and Consultant Neurologist in October 2007.
Dr Pandian also worked internationally as a Stroke/Neurology Fellow at the Stroke Unit, Department of Neurology, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane, Australia, from March 2004 to October 2007. CMC authorities have congratulated the doctor, stating, “From contributing to the development of global health policies to supporting transformative national initiatives such as India’s Stroke Action Plan, and strengthening frontline healthcare capacity, his work has consistently focused on translating global vision into meaningful local impact.”
