Cockroach crawls across table at JW Marriott Mumbai, Delhi-based Cardiologist shares video

Mumbai: A video purportedly showing a cockroach crawling across a dining table at the Romano restaurant of JW Marriott Mumbai has gone viral after a Delhi-based cardiologist shared the footage on social media, drawing attention to hygiene concerns at five-star hotels.  

The incident was reportedly captured after the doctor dined at the hotel’s Sahar property on Saturday. The video shows a cockroach moving across the table while the diners were having their meal, after which the group left the restaurant after the disruption. 

In his social media post, the cardiologist referred to the insect sarcastically as “Roachie” and said its presence had spoiled the dining experience. The post also tagged the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the hotel and an IAS officer, drawing wider attention to the incident, News 18 reported.

The video was subsequently widely circulated on social media, with users raising questions about the restaurant’s hygiene practices and calling for the matter to be examined by the authorities.

According to a News 18 report, a response was also posted from an account identified as Marriott Bonvoy Assist. The account thanked the customer for bringing the issue to its notice and said the matter would be looked into. It also asked the customer to share personal booking details through a private message so that the hotel could follow up on the complaint.

The incident comes only weeks after food safety authorities issued notices to two other five-star properties in Delhi’s Aerocity following inspections that reportedly found cockroaches and other hygiene lapses, including problems in food preparation and storage areas, reports News 18. 

The earlier regulatory action involved different properties and is not directly linked to the Mumbai restaurant. However, the timing has led social media users to draw comparisons between the two incidents and renew calls for stricter monitoring of food hygiene at luxury hotels.

There has been no detailed public response from the Mumbai property on the reported incident so far. The video and the complaint are now under wider public scrutiny as the post continues to circulate online.
