Cyber Fraud: Mangaluru Doctor dupes of Rs 1.65 Lakh

Mangaluru: In another cyber fraud case that has led a Mangaluru-based doctor to lose Rs 1.65 lakh as he got scammed after downloading an unknown mobile app.

The doctor has been identified as B. Ashwin Baliga, a resident of B. Mooda village of Bantwal taluk. 

The incident took place when Dr. Ashwin got a scam call on April 29 that his My Jio app has been blocked. To unlock the app, Dr. Ashwin had to download a mobile app named Quick Easy app which is a remote desk application. While Dr. Ashwin was on the call with the accused, the accused got access to the doctor's phone home screen.

As per the Hindu report, Dr. Ashwin then went to his My Jio app and recharged it with ten rupees using his HDFC Bank debit card information. On the other hand, he received three notifications claiming that his HDFC bank account had been debited for $10,000 each, followed by three messages stating that his HDFC bank account had been debited for $45,000 each.

Following the incident, Dr. Ashwin then went to Dakshina Kannada Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime Police Station and lodged a complaint against the accused on Tuesday.

Under Section 66 (C) and (D) of the Information Technology Act and Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, the Cyber Crime police station registered the case.

According to the police, the investigation to nab the accused is underway and soon the accused will be caught.

Meanwhile, similar cyber news was reported by the Medical Dialogues team where an online fraudster cheated a 44-year-old woman doctor from Versova through Gpay and had taken Rs 1.48 lakh from her bank account.
