Depression Strikes Again: Microbiology Asst Prof allegedly hangs self
Ahmedabad: A woman doctor, working as an assistant professor of microbiology at Gujarat Cancer Society (GCS) Medical College allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside the bathroom of her house at Jaspur in Gandhinagar district.
It is being speculated that depression may have caused the 40-year-old doctor to take the extreme step. Police are currently investigating the case and are yet to ascertain the exact reason for the alleged suicide
The deceased doctor is survived by her husband and her 8-year-old daughter. The deceased doctor's husband is an assistant professor at GMERS Medical College on the Sola Civil Hospital campus. Five months ago, he had resigned from his post in the Gynaecology Department.
As per a recent media report by the Times of India, the doctor spoke to her husband till 5 a.m. on Thursday and then went to sleep. Inspector Vanrajsinh Manjaria of Santej police informed the daily, " The doctor slept in her bedroom and her husband in the drawing-room. At around 8 am on Thursday, when her husband went to see her, he did not see her in the bedroom. He then went to the bathroom where he saw her hanging from a clothes hanger by her dupatta."
When the husband found the doctor hanging, he immediately informed her brother who was a resident of Acher in Sabarmati. In his statement to police, Dhamecha stated, "When I reached there, she was lying dead in the bathroom of their house. I then called the police."
Eventually, the police were informed who initiated a thorough investigation after reaching the spot. Manjaria told the daily, "We have come to know that she was suffering from psychiatric problems which may be the reason for her suicide. We did not get any concrete proof to conclude the investigation, so the inquiry is on."
The body was sent for a post-mortem examination, after which the family had her cremated. When enquired on the relation between the deceased and her husband, the brother of the deceased stated that the couple had a good relationship and they did not have any domestic problems. Santej police registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the case.
