Dharwad: In a disturbing incident, a 45-year-old anaesthesiologist was allegedly stabbed to death at his residence in Dharwad on Wednesday night, while his eight-year-old son was found critically injured in the same apartment, police said.

Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashikumar, along with other police personnel, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. On reaching the apartment, they found the doctor’s son lying in a pool of blood. The child was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Commissioner Shashikumar said the exact time of the murder was yet to be ascertained. “When we arrived, the doctor’s son was alive and lying in a pool of blood. We shifted him to the hospital immediately,” he said.
The doctor lived at the apartment with his wife, an ophthalmologist, and their son. Police said the motive behind the incident was not clear and an investigation was underway.
According to India Today, a video from the scene showed the deceased's wife lying down and scrolling through her phone while the bodies of her husband and son lay in a pool of blood.
During the preliminary investigation, police found that the doctor’s relatives and friends had been trying to contact him on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Commissioner Shashikumar alleged that the wife answered several of those calls, stating that her husband was busy or had gone to the hospital. When neighbours contacted her, she allegedly claimed that she was at home while her husband had gone out.
The commissioner said the wife was currently in a state of shock and that her statements appeared unclear at this stage. Police have registered a murder case and said they would record a complaint from the doctor’s family members, alleging that the wife is the accused. She has been detained for questioning.
He further said, “The apartment has a very secure atmosphere. Each house has CCTV coverage. The possibility of unknown visitors is very low. No clash with neighbours was reported. The time of the murder can be ascertained only after a postmortem. We received information by 7 pm and arrived at the spot,” reports TOI.
