Doctor arrested

Bengaluru: A private hospital owner and a doctor by profession in Dobbaspet was arrested for allegedly duping a 36-year-old man of Rs 45 lakh by falsely promising to secure a government job for his brother-in-law. The incident also led to the arrest of a former Panchayat Development Officer (PDO), Yogendra, who was reportedly involved in the scam.

According to reports by TNIE, the accused, Dr Chandrashekar, refunded Rs 15 lakh to the complainant in an attempt to cover up his scam. However, the complainant was unhappy and demanded the return of the remaining money. When the complainant confronted the doctor about the remaining amount, he allegedly assaulted him and threatened to file a false case of misconduct against him.

According to the police, the complainant, 36-year-old B.S. Anil Kumar from Nelamangala, had been visiting Dr. Chandrashekar for treatment when the doctor assured him that he had high-level contacts and could arrange a police sub-inspector's job for Kumar’s brother-in-law. Trusting the doctor, Kumar paid Rs 45 lakh between October 2021 and November 2022.

To make the deal appear more credible, Dr. Chandrashekar introduced Kumar to Yogendra, falsely claiming that he was a senior bureaucrat who could help him get the job. However, when the official selection list was released, Kumar’s brother-in-law’s name was missing.

After attempts to get a full refund failed, Kumar, at that time, read articles about Yogendra getting arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport on February 25 in connection with many cheating cases. He had previously jumped bail and fled to Sri Lanka.

As per the TNIE news report, the incident came to light when the complainant approached the police on March 1 and filed a complaint against the doctor and the former PDO. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the duo recently and an investigation is underway to determine if more individuals were targeted similarly.
