Greater Noida: In an unfortunate incident, a 58-year-old doctor and his wife (56) allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at their home in Greater Noida, police said on Wednesday.

The couple was found dead in their apartment at Paramount Golf Forest Society in Greater Noida's Surajpur. A suicide note was also recovered from the spot.

Their bodies were discovered by their family on Tuesday night, said the deputy commissioner of police (Central Noida) Harish Chander.

Avadhesh Pratap Singh, in-charge of Surajpur police station stated that the 32 year old son had returned from Shimla on Tuesday night, adding, "Around 9.45pm, when he reached Gaur City Chowk in Greater Noida West, he called his parents but no one picked the call. When he came home, he found his parents' bodies in their bedroom."

Singh added, "During investigation, police found that the couple had sold their house in Delhi to some people...Around six people were harassing the couple over the property dispute, due to which they were stressed."

Chander was quoted as saying by PTI, "The local Surajpur police station officials were alerted last night about the couple being found dead at their home. A team of forensic experts and senior officials immediately reached the couple's flat in a housing society."

The officer said that the pair had given details about their situation in the suicide note, the assertions of which are being verified at the moment. Further, he stated that they got in touch with the pair's son who also shared some inputs.

DCP Chander said, "Apparently, the couple died of consuming some poisonous substance. It has come to light that the doctor and his wife lived in Kirti Nagar in Delhi and had moved to Greater Noida in August this year. They were engaged in a property-related dispute in Delhi, with the issue causing them tension."

"The couple seems to have been engaged into some property related disputes and have named some people in the suicide note. We are investigating the authenticity of the letter", said the DCP.

The details of the people whose names have been listed out in the suicide note as accused are presently being worked out by the police, and further legal proceeding are underway in the case, Singh stated.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for post mortem for further investigation.

According to a media report in Hindustan Times, an FIR has been filed against five known and one unknown person under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC.
