Rajasthan Government Increases Senior Resident Seats
Jaipur: In a major boost to medical education, the Rajasthan Government has increased 1727 seats for senior resident doctors. The Medical Education Department has increased these seats following the demands from the senior residents in this regard, TOI has reported.
While previously around 3,500 such seats were available across different medical departments across the State, now another 1,727 new seats have been added after a video conference of medical education department officials with the department heads of all medical colleges.
Senior residents are an important part of the medical education system as they contribute to both academic and clinical training. After completing their Postgraduate degrees, the senior resident doctors assist the faculty members in teaching the medical students, conducting research, and managing patient care in the hospitals. Therefore, the post of senior resident is a stepping stone for those wishing to pursue their career in the medical education sector.
During the tenure of senior residentship, the experience of the doctors enhances their skills and prepare them for advanced roles in academia and healthcare.
As per the latest media report by TOI, following the demands of resident doctors, the Rajasthan Government has increased 1727 seats of senior residents in the State.
Commenting on the issue, a resident doctor, who has already completed his postgraduation and is now applying for a senior resident post told ET, "Senior residentship is a crucial one-year mandatory teaching experience required for eligibility to apply for assistant professor positions. The addition of more seats aims to strengthen medical education and improve patient care services in the state. The counselling process for these positions will commence soon, allowing eligible PG doctors to participate."
While the Government's initiative to increase the number of seats comes against the backdrop of demands from the doctors, the move is expected to benefit the medical professionals and healthcare institutes as well by ensuring an adequate number of trained doctors in Rajasthan's medical colleges and hospitals.
