Dr Sanjay Tiwari appointed as chairperson of National Dental Commission

Rohtak: Dr Sanjay Tiwari, principal of Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak, has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Dental Commission (NDC).

The National Dental Commission (NDC) is a regulatory body established by the National Dental Commission Act, 2023, to replace the Dental Council of India (DCI). It is the highest body responsible for overseeing the dental education and professional standards of dentists in India.

The appointment was made on the recommendation of the appointments committee of the central cabinet, under the provisions of the National Dental Commission Act, 2023.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued the appointment letter on February 4, and he will take over the position soon. He has 34 years of medical experience in the field of dentistry, holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Operative Dentistry from King George Medical University.

Dr Tiwari has previously served as a Senior Professor and Head, Conservative Dentistry at PGIDS. He has also served as the Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences at Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR) in Rohtak.

His areas of interest include Regenerative Endodontic in the field of Tooth tissue engineering, Endodontic Microsurgery, and Aesthetic Dentistry. He has been conferred with the Dr. C.S.Shaw & Manjula Shaw award for the Best Scientific paper in Operative Dentistry in the 53rd Indian Dental Conference and the Best Paper Award in 2ndConventiono of Indian Endodontic Society, New Delhi, to his credit.

Dr Tiwari has authored over 80 research papers in national and international journals and is also a Commonwealth fellow with King’s College London. He has also received a Fellowship in Micro Restorative and Endodontic from the Indian Board of Micro Restorative & Endodontics on 16th November 2018. He has recently been felicitated by the National Medicos Organization (NMO) Haryana members.

Rahul Garg, a former student of Tiwari and currently a deputy director rank officer at National Health Mission, Panchkula told The New Indian Express, “An alumnus of King George Medical University, Lucknow, where he completed his master’s in dental surgery in 1988, Tiwari has guided and mentored numerous postgraduate students over the years, earning recognition as both an academician and a clinician of repute.”
