Female Ayurveda doctor hangs self at residence, family claims depression

Palakkad: Feeling upset over not being able to pursue higher education, a 32-year-old female Ayurveda doctor allegedly ended her life by hanging herself from the ceiling inside the bathroom at her residence in Palakkad on Tuesday night. 

A suicide case has been registered at the police station and an investigation is underway. No suicide note was recovered by the police.

Although the reason behind her death is unknown, It is believed that she was concerned about not being able to continue her education, and as a result, she committed suicide. 

The deceased was a mother of a four-year-old son and a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. She was working as an Ayurveda practitioner at a private treatment centre in Peringode.

The incident took place on August 22 between 9 p.m. and 10.45 p.m. when the doctor went to the washroom and hung herself from the ceiling with a bath towel. Despite repeated attempts, the doctors at the hospital could not save her. 

“The father of the deceased doctor told the investigating team that she was upset that she could not pursue higher studies. She was first rushed to a private hospital in Koottanad on Tuesday night where she was declared brought dead. The body was shifted to Thrissur Medical College on Wednesday for post-mortem,” a police officer part of the inquest team informed Onmanorama.
