Machilipatnam: In a brutal murder case that took place in the city, a group of armed robbers allegedly slit a lady doctor's throat and escaped with jewellery from her house on Tuesday following which the police have formed three special search teams to nab the accused soon.

The deceased has been identified as the wife of a well-known paediatrician, who runs a mother and child hospital in Jawarupet. Both husband and wife have been running a children's hospital in Bandar for a long time.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the doctor who lived with her husband on the top floor of the hospital building was home alone. While she was at her home, a group of unknown armed robbers entered her house and brutally murdered her before she could shout and ask for help.

The assailants allegedly slit her throat and stole the gold ornaments that she was wearing and escaped from the spot. The incident happened between 6 pm to 10 pm when her husband was in the hospital attending to patients in the OPD.

The incident came to light when her husband got suspicious as his wife did not respond to his calls following which he went upstairs at around 10:30 pm to check up on her. When he entered the room, he was shocked to discover his wife's lifeless body in a pool of blood.

Immediately, he informed the police and a preliminary investigation was conducted upon their arrival at the spot. They gathered evidence with the assistance of the Clues Team and Dog Squad.

Talking about this to Newsmeter, the husband said, "The assailants snatched away two chains and ten bangles she was wearing, They threw chilli powder in her eyes. I found her lying in a pool of blood in the living room. They did not enter any other rooms. No money was stolen. Even the silver idols in the pooja room were left untouched. The maid comes during the day for work. We don’t suspect anybody. It might be just the plan to snatch her gold."

While investigating the case, the police found that the CCTV cameras in the building were not working which could have given them the identity of the unknown assailants. However, the details are being collected from the husband and the case is being investigated.

The police have sent the body to the Bandar Government Hospital for postmortem and the report will be released soon.

"Dr Umamaheswara Rao visited the hospital to attend OP at 6 p.m. When he returned, he found her dead in the living room. We have formed three special teams to apprehend the culprits," said DSP Madhav Reddy.

An FIR was registered at the police station and an investigation is underway.
