Jammu: In a shocking incident, the Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu was booked by the Crime Branch on Monday for allegedly fabricating her Date of Birth (DoB) to gain unfair career advantages.

Following this, a case was registered against the doctor under Sections 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 465, 467 (Forgery of valuable security), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 and 120-B RPC r/w 5(1) (d) PC Act Svt. 2006 at the Police Station Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch (CB), Jammu.

It came to light that the doctor used fabricated dates of birth certificates to gain admission in the MBBS course at GMC Jammu under the nose of the government. It is even more shocking that the doctor was promoted to the post of principal at the GMC in 2020.

The matter could not have been revealed until a written complaint filed by Manu Gupta against the doctor came to the fore, alleging that she had tampered with her age documents to get an undue advantage for getting admission to the MBBS course in the GMC Jammu as she was underage at that time.

"As per the guidelines of MCI, she was not eligible for MBBS course admission at the relevant time and in connivance with the then officers/officials of J&K BOSE, committed the offence of forgery and used forged documents as genuine, thereby causing wrongful gain to herself and corresponding wrongful loss to the state exchequer," the complainant informedGK.

According to the norms set by the Medical Council of India, a candidate needs to be over 17 years of age to be eligible for medical studies. However, as per the information gathered by Crime Branch, the doctor was only 16 years and 8 months till December 31 December 1981, when she joined the MBBS course, which is a clear violation of the MCI rules.

The accused used her two dates of birth, i.e. 08.04.1964 and 08.04.1965, to cheat the government and gain admission to the college.

Dy SP Bhagwan Dass, Investigation Officer, CB Jammu, will investigate the case in depth. Further reports on the case await.
