Guntur: Dr Mohana Rao Patibandla, a Guntur-based neurosurgeon, has been conferred with three awards for his research in minimally invasive spine surgery at the 26th PASMISS– 12th MISSABCON–5th COSSCON 2026 International Spine Surgery Conference held in Chennai.

The conference brought together the Asian Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (PASMISS), the Minimally Invasive Spine Surgeons Association of Bharat Conference (MISSABCON), and the Chennai Ortho Spine Society Conference (COSSCON).

Dr Patibandla was recognised for his research on minimally invasive approaches in spine surgery. He received the PASMISS Best Free Paper Award, the MISSAB Best Free Paper Award, and the COSSCON Best Paper Gold Medal.

His research focused on advanced minimally invasive neurosurgical approaches for complex craniovertebral junction disorders. This achievement reflects a continued commitment to scientific research, innovation, and advancing neurosurgical care from Guntur. It is a proud milestone for Dr Rao's Hospital - International Institute of Neurosciences (IIN) and for neurosurgical research from Guntur.

Dr Mohana Rao Patibandla was born in a small village in Andhra Pradesh and pursued his MBBS at Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, graduating in 2002. He then specialised in neurosurgery, earning his M.Ch from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, in 2013.

His quest for expertise led him to the United States, where he completed multiple fellowships in subspecialties such as minimally invasive skull base surgery, paediatric neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, and endovascular procedures. These credentials, verified through professional profiles, demonstrate a commitment to mastering every facet of neurosurgery.

In 2020, Dr. Patibandla founded Dr. Rao’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility in Guntur which provides advanced neurosurgical care. The hospital is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including Stealth 8 Neuronavigation and 4K neuroendoscopy, sourced from countries like the USA, the Netherlands, and Germany.

It offers a comprehensive range of treatments, from endoscopic keyhole surgeries to radiosurgery and interventional neuroradiology, catering to patients with complex brain and spine conditions. The hospital’s ability to attract international patients underscores its reputation as a centre of excellence, a feat not easily achieved in a third-tier city like Guntur.

Dr. Patibandla’s contributions have been recognised with prestigious awards, including the Brain Lab Neurosurgery Award from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in the USA and the Ed Innova Award of Distinction 2023, presented at the Atal Awards in New Delhi. Additionally, he was also honoured as the Eminent Doctor South 2024 by India Today Magazine, further cementing his standing in the medical community.
