Rohtak Health Department Raids Diagnostic Centre

Rohtak: A major crackdown on illegal sex determination practices in Delhi led to the arrest of a radiologist and a tout at Arogya Diagnostic and Dental Centre in Dwarka on Thursday. The raid was conducted after a tip-off indicated the centre's involvement in illegal sex determination.

According to Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata, the Health Department received a specific information regarding illegal sex determination at the centre, prompting the local authorities to take immediate action. Following the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Health Department conducted a raid.

Speaking to Tribune India, Rohtak Civil Surgeon, Dr Ramesh Chander said, "Following the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, a decoy was readied by the Health Department. A deal was struck to determine the gender of her fetus for Rs 50,000 through a tout. The tout asked the decoy to visit the diagnostic center. A team of the PC and PNDT cell, led by the Nodal Officer, Dr Vishvjeet Rathee, and Medical Officer Dr. Mohit Gill accompanied the woman. Dr Vineet Madan, a radiologist, and Shailender Mathur, a tout, were nabbed during the raid."

Dr Rathee stated that marked currency notes of Rs 50,000 were handed over to the decoy, who then gave them to a tout.

According to Tribune India, he stated, "After conducting the ultrasound examination, the radiologist doctor told the woman that she had twin fetuses, both of whom were female. Following that, the raid was conducted and the radiologist and the tout were nabbed."

A sum of Rs 25,500 in cash was recovered from the accused individuals. However, another suspected tout managed to evade capture and is currently on the run.

The DC stated that all-out efforts were being made to improve the sex ratio in the district. "Action under the PC and PNDT Act and raids on diagnostic centres carrying out illegal determination of foetal gender would continue," he stated.
