Medical Dialogues had earlier reported a similar incident where a person impersonating a doctor had been arrested by the Pune rural police after he was allegedly caught giving allopathic prescriptions to patients at his clinic in Narayangaon in Junnar taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. The fraudster identified as Anupkumar Harideep Mujumdar was charged with fraud and violating the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961 by the district health authority.

The complaint was filed against the accused by Dr Chaitali Ramesh Kangune of Varulwadi's primary health centre (PHC). The arrest came after the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) gave directions to the health officials to conduct an inspection at the Narayangaon's medical facilities and identify any fraudulent doctors. The officials had questioned the accused about his credentials and asked if he held a license from one of the four recognized councils. He denied having the license.
