Mumbai: In a shocking incident, the Jogeshwari police have booked four unidentified individuals, including a woman, for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 15 lakh from a civic medical officer by blackmailing him with a purported video.

The 45-year-old complainant is a medical officer posted at the Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East and resides in Borivali West. According to police officials, the accused allegedly tried to blackmail the doctor using a video that purportedly showed him working at a private establishment, an act prohibited for government doctors.

In his police complaint, the doctor stated that the pertinent video dates back to April 8, 2026. At that time, he was at a café in Malad West, uploading fitness certificate information for Hajj pilgrims’ vaccinations onto a designated portal after his office hours. The hospital administration appointed him as the Nodal Officer for the Hajj portal. According to him, someone secretly recorded the video, reports Hindustan Times.

Police said the accused initially contacted the doctor repeatedly from an unknown phone number over several days. The situation escalated on May 6 at around 12:30 pm when a man posing as a patient approached the doctor at the hospital.

The accused allegedly confirmed the doctor’s identity before showing him the video on a mobile phone. He then took the doctor aside and demanded money, threatening to make the footage viral if the payment was not made.

Police said the suspect returned to the hospital approximately 30 minutes later and openly demanded Rs 15 lakh from the doctor in the presence of his colleagues, asking him to arrange the money within an hour.

Following the complaint, the Jogeshwari police registered an FIR on Saturday against four unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to extortion, criminal intimidation, and blackmail.

Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage from the hospital and nearby areas to identify the accused. Police are also analysing call records linked to the unknown phone number used to contact the doctor.
