Bareilly doctor alleges drugging, sexual assault over 2 years by gym operator; Two arrested

Bareilly: A woman doctor from Bareilly has allegedly been drugged, sexually assaulted, and blackmailed for nearly two years by a gym operator who is accused of using CCTV footage of the crime to extort money and threaten to make it public.

The shocking case, reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Civil Lines area, has led to the arrest of the gym operator and his brother. Police have also sealed the gym as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to the doctor’s complaint, she joined the gym in May 2024, where the gym operator allegedly gained her trust and later mixed an intoxicating substance into her pre-workout drink, causing her to lose consciousness. He is accused of sexually assaulting her inside the gym and recording the act using CCTV cameras installed at the facility.

The victim alleged that after the incident, the gym operator threatened to release the video publicly if she did not comply with his demands. Under fear and pressure, she was allegedly subjected to repeated exploitation and forced to pay large sums of money over time.

Police sources said the gym operator’s brother was also allegedly involved in the conspiracy. The accused reportedly extracted lakhs of rupees from the victim and gradually increased their demands.

After she stopped visiting the gym in January 2026, the gym operator allegedly called her again, threatening to sell the video. The demand reportedly escalated from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh. The case took a more serious turn when it emerged that the gym operator had gathered detailed information about the victim’s assets and family. He allegedly pressured her to sell jewellery and property to arrange the demanded money, reports the 420.

The complaint also alleged that associates linked to the accused monitored the movements of the doctor and her family members. These individuals allegedly tracked their daily activities and sent photographs to intimidate them.

The matter came to light after the victim informed her husband about the alleged harassment and threats. Sources said her husband had earlier grown suspicious about the gym environment and advised her to stop going there. Once the family learned about the ordeal, they approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

During the operation, police recovered two pen drives, two mobile phones, including an iPhone and an Oppo device, nine stimulant vials, six injection vials, one revolver with three cartridges, and Rs 10,000 allegedly obtained through blackmail. Police said that during interrogation, the gym operator admitted to befriending women at the gym, lacing their drinks with intoxicants, and recording videos to extort money. Investigators said the gym operator’s brother also admitted to assisting in luring victims and facilitating the acts, reports News 9 Live.

Authorities have seized and sealed the gym’s CCTV DVR for forensic examination. Preliminary investigation has also indicated that the accused had previously faced allegations related to misconduct involving women.

Speaking to the 420, renowned cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Prof. Triveni Singh said, “In such cases, criminals combine technology with psychological coercion. Recording sensitive content and using it for blackmail has become a serious pattern, where victims often hesitate to come forward due to fear.” He emphasized that timely reporting and legal action are critical to stopping such prolonged exploitation. Experts advise individuals to remain cautious in private spaces like gyms and fitness centres. Consuming drinks or supplements from unfamiliar sources should be strictly avoided. Any suspicious behavior should not be ignored.
