Kannur: A doctor associated with Government Medical College in Pariyaram has resigned, bringing the number of doctors who have resigned from the institution to 19.

As per a media report in the Mathrubhumi, the doctor has been identified as Dr Galin B.Sebastian (MD, DM) from the cardiology department who has been on a contract at the Institute for the last eight years.

The reason behind the resignation is reported to be various disagreements that the doctor had faced with other doctors. This is not the first time such resignation is happening, as many expert doctors from the departments of cardiology and gastroenterology have given their resignation similarly.

Nineteen doctors have resigned from the institute for over one year now.

The resigned doctor is all set to join a private hospital in Nagercoil. He had taken a leave for two months, following which he rejoined on Saturday and gave his resignation to the principal.

The institution was in the news in the past for repeated controversies, particularly the institution's cardiology department. After a device in the cath lab was damaged, a police investigation is currently ongoing over the allegation. Further, another allegation was also reported from the cardiology department involving fraudulence associated with radiation badges, reports the Mathrubhumi

Pariyaram Medical College or Government Medical College Kannur, Pariyaram was established in March 1993 at Pariyaram in Kannur district, Kerala state, South India. It was the first medical college to be established under the cooperative sector in India and was then called the Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME).
