Kerala doctor dies after sudden collapse on way to hospital
Thiruvananthapuram: In a tragic incident, a Medical Administrator at AJ Hospital collapsed on Wednesday morning shortly after getting out of his car and later died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
He was an elder doctor and a native of Venmeli in Konni, Pathanamthitta.
According to hospital sources, Dr P Gopalakrishnan had arrived at AJ Hospital from his son’s house in Kazhakuttam for duty. As he was stepping out of his car, he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the ICU of AJ Hospital and later shifted to another private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, but despite best efforts, he could not be saved.

As per the Kaumudi news report, Dr Gopalakrishnan had been staying with his family in Kazhakuttam for several years. A well-respected figure in the medical community, he had previously served in several reputed hospitals, including Azizia Medical College in Kollam, Neyyattinkara NIMS Hospital, Jubilee Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Muthoot Medical Care in Pathanamthitta, and Believers Medical Centre in Konni.
The funeral was held in his hometown, Konni, attended by family, friends, and colleagues who remembered him as a dedicated medical professional and a humble human being.
Expressing deep sorrow over his sudden death, the AJ Hospital in a statement said, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. G. Gopalakrishnan Nair, our esteemed Medical Administrator. His wisdom, dedication, and compassion will always remain in our hearts. Heartfelt condolences from AJ Hospital Management & Staff."
Medical Dialogus had previously reported that a Medical Officer in-charge at the Bansdih Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ballia district, died of a suspected heart attack while in judicial custody in Varanasi, just five days after being arrested on bribery charges. The doctor, identified as Venkatesh Maurya, was in jail when he suffered a heart attack and was rushed to a hospital in Varanasi after his health worsened, but he could not be saved.
