Thiruvananthapuram: Insisting on the necessary implementation of long-standing demands that have been left unattended, postgraduate medical students under the banner of the Kerala Medical Postgraduates’ Association (KMPGA) have staged a strike for 24 hours today in this regard.

The doctors under KMPGA have demanded for swift implementation of pending demands that include a stipend hike (stipends have remained the same since the past four years), inadequate hostel facilities for PG doctors, poor doctor-patient ratio, relaxation of university, research and exam fees.

As per a recent media report in TH, the protest has already begun from 8 am today with doctors sitting in front of the OP block of Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

The strike resulted from the state government's failure to address their demands repeatedly over a period of an extended period of time, which led to them calling for the strike. The sheer neglect from the government's side prompted the doctors to take action.

Emergency services, ICU care and labour rooms have been exempted from the strike.

On the other hand, the patients will suffer greatly from the disruption in services. In response, the authorities are making efforts not to inconvenience the patients and address their issues effectively.

"The PG medicos will stay away from duties for 24 hours from 8 a.m.," the KMPGA said in a statement here on Thursday.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that For the past few days, DNB junior resident doctors of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag went on pen pen-down strike demanding the release of pending salaries. The protesting resident doctors pointed out that the authorities have not paid them any stipend for the last five months.
