Lucknow: In connection with the alleged religious conversion and harassment case, Lucknow Police have intensified their efforts to arrest the KGMU doctor, deploying five teams across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to trace the absconding accused. Officials said the doctor has been evading arrest by frequently changing his location.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that the investigation into an alleged sexual harassment case at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, involving pressure on a female doctor to convert her religion for marriage, which reportedly led her to attempt suicide, has resulted in the arrest of the accused doctor’s parents, while the main accused doctor is still absconding.

According to the news reports, a non-bailable warrant has already been issued against the doctor, and on Monday, police increased the reward for information leading to his arrest from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava said search operations have been stepped up to ensure the accused is apprehended at the earliest.

Meanwhile, police on Monday arrested the parents of the accused doctor, alleging their involvement in the religious conversion case and the forced miscarriage of two women medical students. The accused’s parents, a 70-year-old man and his 67-year-old wife, were arrested from a rented flat in the Thakurganj area of Lucknow.

Speaking to the Hindustan Times, a police officer privy to the investigation said, “Both the survivors have given written testimonies before a magistrate, stating that they were forcibly converted, sexually exploited, and subjected to miscarriage by the doctor with his parents’ involvement.”

According to the DCP, the couple was allegedly involved in the religious conversion and miscarriage of 2 women medical students, 1 studying at King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow and the other at a medical college in Agra, reports TOI.

The case came to light after the KGMU student submitted a written complaint at the Chowk police station on December 23. In her complaint, she alleged that the accused, her senior, established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage, later forced her to undergo a miscarriage, and pressured her to change her religion.

A similar complaint was later filed by the Agra-based medical student.
