Medical Dialogues had previously reported that after gaining media attention due to multiple allegations of misconduct and alleged involvement with the North Bengal Lobby, the West Bengal Health Department suspended two doctors also known to be close confidants of controversial former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, who is presently in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged involvement in financial irregularities at the state-run hospital when he in charge of its affairs. These two doctors- a resident medical officer (RMO) in the radiodiagnosis department of Burdwan Medical College, and a senior resident doctor attached to the pathology department of the same hospital, who was transferred.

Based on a detailed assessment, the department concluded that the charges against the doctor had been substantiated. Consequently, the competent authority approved the termination of his Senior Residency tenure with immediate effect.

The notification further directs the doctor to refund the bond amount as per the terms of his appointment. Since he joined as a Bond Senior Resident on November 16, 2022, the department has calculated the recoverable amount at Rs 20 lakh, based on the prescribed bond value of Rs 10 lakh per year for two years.

In addition, the Health Department has informed the West Bengal Medical Council about the findings of the enquiry report and has recommended action that could prevent the doctor from securing future government employment.
