27 year old PG medico dies, another injured in road accident on Pune-Nashik highway

Pune: In an unfortunate incident, a 27-year-old postgraduate medical student died while undergoing treatment after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident on the Pune-Nashik Highway near Chakan. Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify the vehicle that allegedly hit the motorcycle carrying two doctors.

According to police, the accident took place at around 10 pm on Wednesday when the two doctors were returning home after completing their duty. An unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed into their motorcycle, causing it to skid and crash into the road divider.  

One of the doctors suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Moshi for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Another doctor, who was also injured in the accident, is currently undergoing treatment. His condition has not been officially disclosed.   

According to reports, police said the vehicle involved in the accident fled the scene immediately after the collision. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the driver. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, collecting evidence from the accident site and recording witness statements to determine how the incident occurred.    

Officials said further legal action will be initiated once the unidentified driver is traced. The investigation is continuing, and police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks faced by healthcare professionals who often travel long distances after completing demanding work shifts. Road safety experts have repeatedly stressed the need for responsible driving and prompt reporting of accidents to prevent such tragedies. 

According to TOI, the two doctors were returning home after completing their hospital duty when their motorcycle was allegedly hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Pune-Nashik Highway near Chakan late on Wednesday night. One of the doctors later succumbed to severe head injuries during treatment, while the other remains hospitalised. Police said efforts to identify the vehicle and its driver are underway.
