52 year old road accident victim dies during treatment at Bhilwara Hospital, family alleges negligence

Jaipur: A case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at a private hospital in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district, where the family of a 52-year-old man alleged that the hospital staff failed to reconnect the ventilator’s oxygen pipe, leading to his death, police said on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as a resident of Rayla, had sustained serious injuries in a road accident on July 8. He was initially admitted to the district hospital and later referred to the private hospital after his condition deteriorated, the police said, news agency PTI reported.
According to the police, the patient underwent head surgery at the hospital and was undergoing treatment.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when the patient was brought out of the ICU to complete formalities related to the Bhamashah health scheme. The family alleged that after he was shifted back to the ICU, the hospital staff failed to “reconnect the ventilator’s oxygen pipe”.
The family further alleged the patient’s condition deteriorated within minutes due to the lapse and that there was a delay in the arrival of the hospital staff despite being informed, leading to his death.
Following the incident, the family members staged a protest on the hospital premises, demanding action against the doctors and staff.
Bheemganj SHO Sunil Chaudhary said a written complaint was taken from the family and appropriate legal action would be initiated after a fair investigation into the allegations.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that an inquiry has been ordered into the death of a woman following childbirth at the Sonbarsa Community Health Centre (CHC) in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district after her family alleged medical negligence. The incident led to protests at the hospital, following which police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Officials said the matter is under investigation, adding that the absence of a post-mortem examination makes it difficult to determine the exact cause of death or establish whether any medical negligence occurred.
