Supreme Court Dismisses Plea Challenging NEET 2026 Retest, Terms It Infructuous
With the NEET UG 2026 re-exam results awaited and the counselling process set to begin soon, the Supreme Court today dismissed a petition challenging the National Testing Agency (NTA) decision to cancel the May 3 NEET UG 2026 exam and conduct a nationwide re-test, holding that the matter had become infructuous as the examination had already been held.
While hearing the petition filed by former Assistant Director General of Health Services (DGHS), a Division Bench comprising Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe observed that since the re-examination had already taken place on June 21, there was no purpose in deciding the challenge to the cancellation of the earlier exam.

National Dental Commission Abolishes Provisional Registration for BDS Internship
In a major decision, the National Dental Commission (NDC), erstwhile Dental Council of India (DCI), has abolished the mandatory requirement for BDS graduates to obtain provisional registration before commencing the Compulsory Rotatory Internship. The move takes immediate effect and is expected to significantly simplify the registration process for dental graduates across the country.
With this, BDS students will no longer have to obtain provisional registration from State Dental Councils before starting their internship. The Commission has also directed State Dental Councils to grant permanent registration to eligible graduates after successful completion of the BDS course and compulsory internship without insisting on a provisional registration certificate, provided all other prescribed requirements are fulfilled.
