Telangana medical council finds BDS graduate conducting regenerative medicine training for doctors, dentists, AYUSH practitioners

Hyderabad: A surprise inspection conducted by the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) at a Hyderabad hotel has uncovered an alleged unauthorised training programme where doctors, dentists and AYUSH practitioners were receiving hands-on training in cellular and regenerative medicine from a dental practitioner.

The inspection was carried out at a hotel in Karmanghat on Friday following information that the medical and dental practitioners were being given hands-on training during a three-day fellowship programme.

The team included TGMC member Dr Gundagani Srinivas, accompanied by Dr Jalagam Vijay as an eyewitness and TGMC Vigilance Officer Ramu conducted the inspection. 

The programme, titled 'Fellowship in Cellular and Regenerative Medicine (FCRM)', was organised by Naturo Scholars and MAC International Academy. The course reportedly included lectures, practical training sessions and certification for participants.

During the inspection, the council found that the hands-on training was allegedly being conducted by a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) graduate registered with the Maharashtra State Dental Council.

According to the council, the programme was attended by dentists, AYUSH practitioners, MBBS graduates, radiologists, anaesthetists, general physicians and urologists, who were being trained in cellular and regenerative medicine procedures.

The TGMC said, "Participants told the inspection team that they had enrolled in the programme after being informed by the organisers that dermatologists and anaesthetists would conduct the training and provide hands-on exposure. However, during the inspection, the council found that the sessions were allegedly being conducted by a dental practitioner with a BDS qualification, and alleged that the organisers had misled the participants regarding the faculty for the course."

"Regenerative medicine-related training should be conducted only by appropriately qualified and competent professionals in accordance with established medical standards and regulatory norms," the TGMC said as quoted by The Hindu. 

Following the inspection, the TGMC said it will place its findings before its General Body and submit a report to the Dental Councils of Telangana and Maharashtra and initiate steps to register a First Information Report (FIR) against the organisers.
