Police found a dupatta at the scene and concluded that the student who has been identified as 22-year-old Pradipta Das, a resident from Sodepur hung herself with the dupatta.

Unfortunately at that time, many of her roommates went outside which gave her the time to implement her plan of committing suicide. However, the matter seemed unusual to some hostelers as Pradipta usually never locks herself at that time of the day. Suspicions prompted other hostelers to check up on her but the door was locked from inside. The hosteler then broke the door and found her hanging from the ceiling.
After the police arrived at the scene, they questioned other classmates and found that Pradipta was suffering from anxiety and was unable to cope with the stress of her studies.
An officer from Beniapukur Police who is investigating the case told TOI, "We have informed her family. Once they are here, we will know the exact reason why she chose such a step. We spoke with her friends and professors in college. According to some of her classmates, she had told them that she was finding it difficult to cope with the stress of her studies. We have also learned that she was undergoing treatment. A post-mortem has been initiated and inquest proceedings have begun."

Her roommate went outside to have food. When Pradipta did not respond, the roommate raised an alarm. We all rushed to the room and pushed open the door. She was hanging from the ceiling fan."
As per The Telegraph, her father is a retired police officer who has another child elder than Pradipta. Cops informed that a post-mortum would be done on Tuesday at NRS Medical College and Hospital where her body has been taken.
However, no suicide note has been recovered from the scene.
Deputy Commissioner (south-east) Sudip Sarkar "An investigation has been initiated. We will also ascertain if the family wants to lodge any complaint."
