Ludhiana doctor couple looted of Rs 3.5 crore, jewellery by masked men at gunpoint
Ludhiana: A doctor couple's house in the city became the scene of a major money heist after four masked men entered their house, threatened them at gunpoint and robbed 3.5 crores in cash along with other expensive items. It is believed to be the second-largest robbery in the city this year.
In response to this, the police on Wednesday arrested the four persons in connection with the case. The arrest was made after an FIR was registered under 392, 506, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act at Dugri police station.

Apart from this, 271.35 gm gold jewellery, 88 gm silver jewellery, two cars and a 12-bore illegal country-made pistol were also recovered from the possession of the arrested accused in the case.
The accused have been identified as 39-year-old Gurwinder Singh Sonu of Sua Road, 42-year-old Pavneet Singh Shalu of Dugri, 22-year-old Jagpreet Singh and 21-year-old Sahildeep Singh, both from Tarn Taran.
The incident took place on September 14 around 8.40 p.m. after the woman doctor arrived at her home and the watchman opened the main gate. Her husband was already home. She said that a few minutes later, four masked men barged inside by scaling the boundary wall. They held her husband and the watchman captive at gunpoint and tied them with tape. They had then taken her to the storeroom from where the accused had taken away cash and gold jewellery.
It came to light that the doctor couple hold authorisation from several countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand and England.
Ludhiana police commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu informed TOI, “The victims in their complaint had claimed that the accused robbed them of Rs 15 lakh cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh. The police swung into action and formed different teams to trace the accused. We managed to solve the case in 96 hours and arrested all four accused who executed the robbery.”
“Cops recovered Rs 3.51 crore in cash. It is suspected that the victims did not share the actual amount because of the fear of the income tax department. We are also suspecting the involvement of an insider, who had information about the couple and a huge stock of cash in the house. The police are verifying the role of the current and former employees of the doctor couple,” Sidhu added.
