MBBS Student Dupes Aspirant Mother of Rs 3.2 Lakh

Mumbai: A 26-year-old MBBS student from Delhi was arrested by the Kandivli police for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs 3.2 lakh on the pretext of providing her daughter admission to a reputed medical college in Kyrgyzstan. 

The accused demanded an amount of Rs 5.5 lakh and in turn promised the woman's daughter to secure her daughter admission to a reputed college in Kyrgyzstan, however, she was given admission to an unrecognized college, reports the Mid Day.

The accused also did not pay full fees as promised because of which the girl was stopped by the college to appear for the exams. A police complaint was lodged by the 35-year-old woman after her daughter told her about her difficult situation. 

Meanwhile, the girl was allowed to give the exams after Vishal Thakur, DCP of Zone 11 intervened in the matter and requested the embassy. 

The investigating officer PSI Sagar Bokaro said, "The accused has been remanded in police custody till Monday and further probe is on."

The woman works as a house help, and her daughter, one of her five children, had expressed a desire to become a doctor in 2020. According to the police officers, the complainant had spoken to the accused, got her daughter enrolled in online classes, and paid him Rs 1.5 lakh.

The officers added that the accused had taken Rs 3.2 lakh from Khajima claiming that her admission was completed, however, later, she found out that the college was not recognised and that Khan had not paid the admission fees as he had promised. 

As per the Mid-Day report, the complainant said, "Khan had demanded Rs 5.5 lakh, of which Rs 3.2 lakh was transferred online. But after I was informed that my daughter has been admitted to some unrecognized college, I refused to pay him the remaining amount. After this, Sameer and his companions spoke to the college authorities, who then barred my daughter from appearing in the exam."
