2 Aspirants duped of Rs 45 lakh with promise of admission at Pune Medical College

Pune: Two persons who allegedly cheated two students of Rs 45 lakh each on the pretext of securing admission to a medical college in Narhe were arrested by the Pune police.

Medical College, Narhe, Pune is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik. Its MBBS degree is recognized by the Medical Council of India and also by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India –New Delhi.

The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged in this case at the Sinhagad police station by the security officer of the medical college, reports the Indian Express.

According to the police, the two students could not get admission to the medical college in Narhe. The accused persons had contacted them and assured them of providing admissions if they make a payment of Rs 45 lakh each.

The accused have been booked by the police under sections 419, 420, and 511 of the Indian Penal Code. The police are currently investigating whether the accused have cheated more students like this in a similar manner, as per the Indian Express report.

The accused have been identified by the police as 31-year-old Mahendra Bediya from Jharkhand and 31-year-old Karan Sinha from Bihar.

The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about a similar cheating incident where a 50-year-old businessman has cheated of Rs 43 lakhs by two fraudsters who promised him of getting his daughter an MBBS seat in the premier Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER) Puducherry in 2019. A case of cheating, forgery and criminal intimidation was registered by the Sattur Taluk police against the duo from Sivakasi and Chennai.
