Mumbai private hospital duped of Rs 3.29 lakh with promise of medical journals
Mumbai: An unidentified person who allegedly cheated a well-known private hospital of Rs 3.29 lakh on the pretext of providing medical journals was booked by the Powai police.
The hospital was duped in 2019, however, the incident came to light when the accused approached the hospital again in January this year following which an offense was registered in connection with this matter, reports the Free Press Journal.
On the basis of the statement of the complainant, the hospital was attempting to stock the hospital library with medical journals and had subsequently floated a tender in January 2018. After that, an email id holder by the name of JMJ periodicals had approached them. The hospital placed an order for 20 medical journals costing ₹6.58 lakh with them.
The hospital agreed to pay half the amount for booking before delivery and the rest after that since the correspondence took place online through the mail, and hence the hospital made a payment of Rs 3.29 lakh. The books were promised to be delivered within a fortnight in March 2019, however, they were not delivered as promised, reports the Free Press Journal.
The company which took the booking amount was not relying on the status of the journals when the hospital began following up. The accused had written to the hospital in 2021, however, due to the pandemic they could not reply.
After the incident, the hospital received a similar query from the same id in January this year, who had cheated them on the pretext of providing medical journals. The hospital then lodged a complaint with the Powai police, following which a case was registered against an unknown person under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
