Bengaluru: A doctor from KC General Hospital is facing charges of alleged medical negligence after a newborn passed away due to a delayed caesarean procedure.

According to the family members, the doctor intentionally postponed the procedure in order to perform a normal delivery. However, due to complications that arose later, the doctor ultimately decided to perform a C-section, as previously suggested by the family members.

Apart from this, the family members also accused the doctor of demanding a bribe. Therefore, in response to the accusations, the Malleshwaram police registered an FIR and booked the doctor on Monday. However, no arrest has been made so far.

As per a country and politics news report, the incident pertains to a patient from Chokkasandra who was pregnant and was admitted to the hospital for delivery after a full-term pregnancy on Sunday. As the delivery time came near, the family members of the woman asked for a C-section. However, the doctor insisted on normal delivery, they alleged.

The family further alleged that even though the doctor wanted to conduct the delivery in the normal procedure, it was delayed till the evening and the patient developed complications. Noting the patient's condition, the doctor then decided to go for a caesarean section.

After the delivery, the doctor noticed that the newborn had some serious complications and shifted the baby to the ICU. Unfortunately, the baby passed away.

Angered over the loss, the grieving family members confronted the doctor and accused him of medical negligence. In addition, they created a ruckus at the hospital.

Later, they approached the police and filed a complaint against the doctor under relevant sections of IPC. Following this, the police sent the body of the newborn for postmortem to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the doctor has denied the charges of alleged medical negligence.

The case is currently under investigation and further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.
