Noida: A Noida-based doctor booked under various sections including 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC was arrested from Lahori Gate for allegedly cheating a family of Rs 8 lakh on pretext of performing a kidney transplant.

The doctor has been identified as a 51-year-old medical practitioner from sector 19, Noida.

According to the police, a Sector 31 resident had to undergo a kidney transplant procedure. Many doctors and hospitals, including AIIMS Delhi, had recommended him the procedure.

As per various media accounts, a neighbour, told the family about the doctor and the patient's brother met him. The doctor asked for Rs 10 lakh to conduct the surgery. Soon, Rs 8 lakh was paid to the doctor through the neighbour.

However, after receiving the payment, the doctor allegedly did not make arrangements for the procedure, and the patient succumbed in January this year. later, when the family asked for a refund, the doctor allegedly refused.

"When Ahmed asked for the money, the doctor refused to return it," a police officer told TOI.

A case was registered at the Sector 20 police station against the doctor and the neighbour who had recommended him and the duo was booked under under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) of IPC.

"The doctor was nabbed on Wednesday from Delhi's Lahori gate where he has a private clinic. We are on the lookout for the neighbour," Munish Chauhan, station house officer, Sector 20 police station told HT.

He was produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody.
