Odisha Doctor caught red handed while accepting Rs 7000 bribe

Kandhamal: An Odisha-based doctor attached to the Community Health Center (CHC) at Phiringia in Kandhamal district was caught red-handed by vigilance officers while accepting a bribe of Rs 7000 from another doctor for passing his RCM and TA bills.

The doctor has been identified as the Block Public Health Officer of Phiringia CHC in Kandhamal. The complainant is an MPHS (male) who was working in the same CHC. As per a recent media report by

, the complainant mentioned in his complaint that the doctor allegedly demanded Rs 7000 illegally from him for passing his RCM and TA bills. Acting on the complaint, the vigilance sleuths caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bribe money of Rs. 7000 has also been recovered from the right side pant pocket of the doctor. Police are also searching the residential quarter of the accused at Phiringia, reports the daily.

A similar incident also took place in Odisha a few months ago where a Government doctor in Sundargarh district was arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a health worker for regularisation of her leave period. The sleuths of the Vigilance department had caught the medical officer in charge cum Hemagiri Community Health Centre (CHC) red-handed while accepting the bribe from a former Multi purpose female health worker.

The offence of demanding or accepting a bribe in government agencies or public sectors is punishable under IPC SEction 161.
