On-duty paediatrician beaten up by Goons, Reason? Rabies Vaccine was not available at Civil Hospital
Dibrugarh: In a shocking incident, an on-duty paediatrician at Margherita Civil Hospital became the victim of physical assault after a group of youths allegedly assaulted him over the treatment of a rabies patient.
Three accused were apprehended by the Margherita police, following the doctor's complaint. They were charged under the various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The doctor was beaten by the intoxicated group who were accompanying a patient seeking treatment for rabies after being bitten by a dog. After informing about the unavailability of the anti-rabies vaccine, the group became agitated and confronted the doctor and the matter escalated to a physical attack on the doctor.

The incident unfolded on Monday night at around 10.30 pm when the doctor was on emergency night duty at the hospital when the accused and his companions brought in a patient for rabies injection who had suffered a dog bite. After giving the patient first aid, the doctor advised them to come back in the morning as the vaccine was unavailable at that time.
