Dr Bhagal is a professor, and Dr Singh is a senior professor from the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at the Postgraduate Institute of Dental Sciences (PGIDS), Rohtak. The duo are now recognized as among the world's top 50 scientists on the subject of mandibular condylar fractures. Their research study has brought global recognition for its parent institute, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, which prioritises research.
Speaking about the study, Dr. Bhagol explained that mandibular fractures - fractures of the lower jaw are among the most common facial injuries seen in road accidents. The fractures pose serious challenges to patients' functional rehabilitation, aesthetics, and quality of life.

Addressing the issue, his research team developed a widely acclaimed classification system for mandibular fractures, which is now used by surgeons worldwide to plan surgeries and ensure consistent treatment. He stated that this classification system has ushered in a new era in the management of mandibular fractures.
Their research contributes to advancing scientific understanding in this important field, contributing to improved patient outcomes, advanced surgical protocols, and global healthcare strategies.
Congratulating the researchers, Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences, Vice-Chancellor Dr. H.K. Aggarwal, said that this recognition is not only a proud moment for the university but also reflects its widespread impact on the medical world. We should draw inspiration from Dr. Virendra and Dr. Amrish and conduct research for the benefit of as many patients as possible. Principal Dr. Sanjay Tiwari, who is always a source of inspiration for his physicians, also deserves congratulations for this achievement."
Principal Dr Sanjay Tiwari told TOI, "Vice Chancellor Dr. H.K. Aggarwal has always strived to promote research at the institute. Recognizing the importance of research, Dr. Aggarwal sanctioned Rs 5 crore (US$50 million) for research to benefit patients across the state. This research has led to this achievement for the dental college physicians. Several other research works by Dr. Virendra Singh and Dr. Amrish Bhagol have also been published in national and international journals. The two scholars have jointly contributed to approximately 150 research publications, which have received nearly 2,800 citations to date. Their work has also been cited in leading textbooks published in the US and UK, reflecting the international impact of their scientific contributions."
Dr. Tiwari stated that "Dr. Amrish Bhagol and Dr. Virendra Singh have over 25 years of rich surgical experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Together, they have successfully performed over 5,000 surgeries, making significant contributions to patient care, clinical innovation, and surgical training." He added, "This demonstrates the global academic and clinical excellence of our faculty members."
