Pune: In an alleged violence against a medical practitioner, a middle-aged doctor was brutally assaulted and beaten by five people, including two women with an iron road, leaving him with a fractured left hand.

The doctor was subject to violence when he protested against the truck driver who hit his car from behind while he was on his way to his sister's house in Bavdhan.

Following this, the truck driver called four people for backup and a verbal fight broke out. The assailants then started beating the doctor and struck his hand with an iron rod.

A case has been registered under sections 323 and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicle Act against the assailants.

The doctor is a 50-year-old anaesthesiologist at the Employees' State Insurance Corporation office in Aurangabad. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon.

According to the victim, he flashed his right indicator to make a turn in the direction of the apartment building where his sister resides. Suddenly, a truck approaching from behind brushed against the side of his automobile, but the driver continued.

The doctor followed and overtook him, after which the truck driver halted his vehicle. "I told the truck driver to pay for the damages caused by his rash driving. Instead, the driver abused me and started hitting me. He then made a phone call. Within a few minutes, four people, including two women, came there in a white car and told the truck driver to leave," the doctor said.

He claimed all four began abusing and punching him when he attempted to speak with one of them. His right hand was broken when one of them struck him with an iron rod.

The doctor said that the gang then left in their vehicle. After this, he filed a complaint against five people at the Hinjewadi Police Station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police.

"One of the men took out an iron rod from the car and assaulted me. I suffered blows all over my body. My right hand was fractured in the attack. The assailants then drove off. There were people on the road but no one came to my help. I too did not react because of the presence of the two women," he said.

Sub-inspector Yashwant Salunke of the Hinjewadi police told TOI, "The complainant has mentioned the truck's registration number and the car in his complaint. We will trace the attackers and arrest them.”
