Hyderabad: As part of a crackdown against quacks in Telangana, the Rachakonda Special Operation Team (SOT) nabbed a fraudster couple impersonating as MBBS doctors in a raid conducted at illegal clinics operating in the city on Tuesday.

The matter gained the attention of the Rachakonda police who formed a Special Operation Team to nab the couple based on a tip-off from a patient. It came to the fore that the couple were treating patients from different clinics in the city with fake medical degrees.

The arrested couple are both residents of Chilukanagar Uppal who were found using fake prescription letters, stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, pulse oximeters, display boards, medical equipment and fake rubber stamps.

Fake medical (MBBS and MD) certificates and medical council certificates were also found on the spot. The police have seized all the items found in their clinics.

According to the police, the patient who approached the police found something amiss about the doctor couple. Following this, a raid was conducted at the clinic which revealed the real identity of the couple.

It appears the couple is a husband-wife duo, where the husband claimed himself as a general physician and cardiology specialist whereas his wife acted as a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology.

The husband completed his BEMS course from Jalgaon Pune in 1992 and worked with a few doctors as an assistant. Later, he worked at several noted hospitals in the city and also participated in medical camps. On the other hand, his wife dropped out of the B.Sc BZA course in 1996.

R Giridhar, DCP Special Operations Team informed Telangana Today, “The husband had set up various clinics claiming he had completed his master’s course in cardiology and diabetes while his wife claimed she had done an MBBS course and specialized in obstetrics and gynaecology."

Later, a case was registered against the duo and they were arrested under charges of Sections 417 (punishment for cheating), 420 (cheating), 465 (punishment for forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC and Section 15(3) of the Indian Medical Council Act 1956.
