Medical Negligence
Shamli: A 35-year-old woman passed away after a quack allegedly conducted gallstone surgery at an unlicensed private hospital in Shamli, without administering anaesthesia, leading to severe blood loss. Following her death, the woman's family members staged a protest and alleged that the woman died of negligence.
The unlicensed hospital was found locked when officials arrived for inspection, and the hospital owner fled the scene after abandoning the victim’s body in the operation theatre.

The victim identified as a 35-year-old woman from Muzaffarnagar’s Jola village, was admitted to Gagan Hospital for a gallstone operation. According to her family, the hospital’s owner who allegedly introduced himself as a doctor, performed the surgery despite the hospital lacking the proper facilities or qualified staff. The family claims that the accused owner made an 11-inch incision on the woman’s abdomen, but failed to provide anesthesia, resulting in excessive bleeding.
Following the woman's death, her family and the local community staged several protests, first outside Gagan Hospital, then at the post-mortem house, and later at the Shamli collectorate. The protests were aimed at demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.

Speaking to TOI, the woman’s husband who has a metal rod in his leg and struggles to walk said, "My wife was an ASHA health worker. She met Abrar, who introduced himself as a doctor. When she consulted him about her gallstones, he assured her it was a minor surgery and asked her to visit his hospital. I believe Abrar wanted to remove my wife's kidney. A gallstone operation does not require such a large incision."
Her son who accompanied his mother to the hospital, also voiced concerns. As per the news reports, he mentioned that he had asked the doctor to wait for his father, but the surgery proceeded without informing them. Later, the doctors fled. When he entered the operation theatre, he saw his mother lying lifeless.
